The goal of this site is to empower you with the tools, such as free Internet security software, and knowledge to help guard yourself against these online threats.

You’ll also find posts on product reviews, legitimate no scam ways to make money online as well as computer help tips and tricks. The later includes how to speed up a slow computer and how to permanently wipe a hard drive (hint: formatting unfortunately does not permanently delete your hard drive)

Having your computer infected with malware can lead you to be added to the ever growing list of victims of identity theft.

identity theft

“Why should I be concerned with these Internet security and privacy threats?” you ask. Besides being disconcerting and a mere annoyance having your computer infected with a keylogger, computer virus, spyware, Trojan horse or other malware it can ultimately lead you to become a victim of identity theft, one of the fastest growing crimes in Canada and the USA.

Every three seconds someone has their identity stolen as a direct result of cybercrime

Identity theft is serious business.  According to the US Bureau of Justice in 2012 approximately 7% of people living in the United States age 16 years or older were victims of identity theft.  It is estimated that every three seconds some one has their identity stolen as a direct result of cybercrime.

Cybercrime, in fact,  is so lucrative for criminals that it has actually surpassed drug trafficking as a criminal money maker. Cyber criminals steal your identity through hacking and malicious software.

Cyber criminals are using spam and phishing to steal peoples identity

Phishing Scam

Spam is more than just a pain in the butt. Cyber criminals use spam and phishing attempts to trick the victim into giving out their credit card number and other personal info. This could lead you to having your identity stolen.

As the Internet becomes more popular so do the number of Internet scams

Nowadays, the Internet is such a big part of many of our lives. It’s on our mobile devices, desktop computers, laptops and more. As the Internet increases in popularity and becomes more prevalent so do the number of Internet  scams that cyber criminals use  to deprive you of your hard earned cash.

In my post titled Amazon Affiliate Program Website Scam I tell you about scam companies that sell their victims useless cookie cutter websites. On top of that they often talk the scam victim into spending even more money on advertising, marketing and/or training for exorbitant amounts. The scam victim is promised huge earnings through the Amazon Associate program (strangely often a 125% return of investment for whatever reason).

Because these websites are filled with banner ads and widgets linking to the website and have no actual real content these sites sadly tend to convert very poorly. Often the scam victim is scammed out of thousands of dollars and never gets sees a penny of what he/she invested again.

I go into much greater detail about this on my post titled Amazon Affiliate Program Website Scam, including what to do if you have been a victim of this scam and how to legitimately make money with the Amazon Associates program. I also tell you the personal stories of a couple of scam victims who lost thousands of dollars. Sadly, often the victims of these scams are pensioners, people on disability, the unemployed and people who are otherwise down on their luck.

Fortunately, there are steps that you can take to prevent being a victim of get rich quick schemes, online auction fraud and other cyber scams.
